Hall of Fame 2009 Press Release

Texas Newspaper Foundation selects class of 4 for 2009 Hall of Fame

AUSTIN — The Texas Newspaper Foundation is proud to announce Fred V. Barbee Jr., Ben R. Ezzell, Jesse H. Jones and Jerry Tidwell as the 2009 inductees into the Texas Newspaper Foundation Hall of Fame.

The induction ceremony will take place on Friday, Feb. 6, 2009, at the Texas Press 62nd annual midwinter conference in Arlington.

In 2006, the Texas Newspaper Foundation created its own Hall of Fame to induct up to four exemplary men and women of the newspaper business each year and the first four were inducted in January 2007.

A selection committee met in late 2008 and chose this year’s class of inductees for outstanding achievements and contributions to the newspaper industry and to their communities.

Serving as committee members were: Bill Berger, publisher of the Hondo Anvil Herald; Sarah L. Greene, publisher of the Gilmer Mirror; Roy Robinson, publisher of Graham Newspapers Inc.; and Texas Press Association past presidents, Willis Webb, and Marshall Day, publisher of The Gatesville Messenger.

Deadline for nominations for the 2010 class of inductees in the TNF Hall of Fame is September 30, 2009.
